Players of EVE Online and DUST 514, the popular space MMO and its recently announced MMOFPS spin-off, respectively, will be able to communicate with each other in ways not before seen in MMOs. The two games are set in the same universe at the same time, allowing, for example, EVE Online players on the PC to hire DUST 514 players on the consoles to fight ground battles for them. But exactly how far could this kind of cooperation go?

It’s one thing to post a ‘mercenaries wanted’ ad on a board that players from both games can interact with, but could real-time in-game cooperation be an option as well? An answer developer CCP’s CEO Hilmar Petursson gave in a recent interview leaves us hopeful that it just, just might happen.

When asked if pulling off coordinated attacks like an orbital weapon barrage would be a possibility, Petursson said they’re “not able to discuss the real-time communication possibilities” at this time, leading us to believe they could at least be thinking of linking the two MMOs together in such a manner. And that’s enough to get us all excited.

I so wanna take a marauder and shell a planet.  It be so cool to watch orbital bombardment while on the ground.  The enemies are exterminate right before everyone's eyes.

My only question is, will the PC Eve Navy have to protect the War Barges of Dust soldiers to there destination?  And how will land fall work? Could we do something along the lines of hot drops like ODST from halo? OR will there be a LZ close to the objective and fight our way in?

Another thing that had dawned on to me, is will we fight inside space stations as well for control similar to planets?

Someone had a great idea in this forum.  I remember bits and pieces so correct me if I'm wrong.  something about fighting in stations over none hospitable planets.  I have no answers,, but the thought I'm hoping CCP uses.  I look for new material here and there.  Nada so far.

Well I did find something about space stations, but wasn't quite what I was looking for, but then I also happened to remember that territory for space stations is controlled by the Eve navy. So I don't think Dusties will have to worry about space station battles. But the ultimate thing I'm worried about is being easy targets to our destination in our war barges.  I've played eve before, and had my favorite ship lost a couple of time cause I was an ignorant pilot and wasn't paying attention. IF and I stress IF these Barges are Auto Piloted there, it could spell disaster very easy to claim FULL territory in those regions we seek to conquer.

It would make sense that the war barges and other landing ground assault and equipment to be protected by pod pilots.  That's probably how Eve would interact with dust in the beginning.

In the same thought, Corps could prevent ships from dispatching ground assaults via large enemy fleets.

I sure hope that the use of dust wouldn't make conquering planets one sided. Meaning only the large corps in Eve would have the full benefit.  Then again Dominions release will change many of the habits and ISK seeking in Eve

I cool thought that had popped in my head for co-op between MMO's. for instance, two friends, playing two different games, doing a two part mission solo phase, after pairing up, EVE and DUST venture out what EON players call Care-bearing (assignments from agents to battle NPCs), they raid a pirate base. EVE in his ship takes out the pirates ships and defenses, and drops DUST off at the pirates base. DUST then has to (By choice) Sneak around, or master Chief it out to get the agents wants. EVE is then under pressure because a second wave of pirates shows up in hopes to save or protect "there Investments" DUST takes out the command center of the base steals the cache re-programs the defenses to engage pirates, EVE swoops in, grabs DUST and jets out with mission accomplished.
